About the Symposium

The IMWBN Inaugural Symposium is a two-day global online event bringing together researchers, practitioners and stakeholders from across the international marine wood-borer community.

The symposium will showcase the breadth of current marine wood-borer research through keynote and plenary presentations, invited scientific talks, themed networking and interactive discussions.

Across the two days, the programme will explore three broad themes:

  • Biology, biodiversity, ecology and deep history

  • Infrastructure, heritage, environmental change and socio-economic impacts

  • Symbiosis, biotechnology, blue food and future research priorities

The meeting is intended both to showcase current research and to strengthen connections across the international community working on marine wood-borers and their wider ecological, economic and applied significance.
